The AMAZING Adidas ad that mixes up SALAH with RICK and MORTY
The German brand mixed up their marketing campaign and decided to collab with the popular characters
Despite being one of the most popular aspects of global pop culture, for the longest of times it seemed like football was isolated into it's own bubble. Perhaps it was an old mindset, with football traditionalists despising that the sport was mixed with "non-football" things. Be it as it may, it's now long over, and pop culture and football are mixing in ever more creative ways.
We can find the latest example of this in the way Adidas announced the latest Adidas X SPEEDPORTAL boots. Rather than doing a traditional showing with the players that will wear them, they went on a tangent.
The German brand collabed with adult-oriented TV channel Adult Swim to have two of their most famous characters, Rick and Morty (from the show of the same name) take part in an introductory video that also featured global Adidas stars Mohammed Salah and Vivianne Miedema.
The video features the two characters and the footballers, as well as the new X SPEEDPORTAL boots at the center of a new adventure with the universe's most brilliant scientist and his painfully shy sidekick and grandson, as well as an animated version of the Al-Rihla, the official 2022 Qatar World Cup ball.
"This 90-second short isas funny as anything Rick and Morty and as fast as whatever Rick must have put into this boot", said Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim. "It's a collaboration that could only happen in a multiverse, andRick, Morty, Mo Salah and Vivianne Miedema are the (fever) dream team you never knew you needed to see".
It's another step in football and other elements of popular culture mixing up, as we see more and more collaborations between brands and athletes from the sport and other creative people.
