Barça are threatening legal action against AS Roma, but who's the real responsible?
Nasser Al-Khelaïfi was the puppetmaster all along. The controversy erupted this week as AS Roma decided to cancel their participation in the Trofeo Joan Gamper organised by FC Barcelona and the Catalan club was outraged, claiming the decision had been unilateral and threatening with legal action.

While some fans where quick to make the joke that José Mourinho had done it to avoid a return to the Camp Nou, it is now know who was behind the decision to pull the Italian side from the friendly competition: none other than Paris Saint Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi.
At least, that's according to Italian newspaper Il Corriere dello Sport, who revealed that the Al-Khelaïfi had called in a favour with Roma boss Dan Friedkin. The Roma owner has recently joined the board of directors of the European Club Association (ECA), the organization that joins the clubs of Europe, and which the PSG president leads.
And the reason for the withdrawal? FC Barcelona, together with Real Madrid and Juventus, are the three clubs still biding for the organization of an European Super League. In fact, the chair now occupied by Al-Khelaïfi was previously the seat of Juventus president Andrea Agnelli, who resigned when the ESL was announced.

Embroiled in a continuing fight for power, it would have been Al-Khelaïfi who suggested to AS Roma that playing ball with the rivals from across the street would be a bad idea, leading to the club withdrawing from the friendly competition.
