OFFICIAL: Angel Di María joins Juventus for LAST DANCE in Europe
The Argentine makes the move to Juve in the midst of talks of a future return to Argentina
Ángel Di María is officially a Juventus player. The negotiation was long and hard fought, but the Argentine will wear the Bianconeri shirt the coming season, in what could be his final year in Europe.
It was announced in the days prior that Ángel Di María had his medical scheduled by Juventus, to make all the necessary checks and make the deal official, and it has come to pass. El Fideo is now officially a Juventus player, althought it was not without its complications, as it looked at one point that the former Real Madrid and PSG player favoured a move to Barcelona. However, that quickly collapsed and the deal with Juve went through.
"For me it's a new stage of my career, I'm very happy, very pleased", explained Di María in an interview for the official Juventus website. "From the moment I accepted the offer, I saw that here it's like a family, everybody is looking after you, and that makes me very happy".
The signing comes with the blessing of several people associated with Juve, not least of all legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, who said that the Argentine would be "like Maradona" in today's Serie A.
Di María signs a one year deal worth 6 million euros. For him, that was a key factor, as he's repeadly said that this will most likely be his last year in European football, looking to stay sharp for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, before eyeing a return to his come town of Rosario in Argentina, and his childhood club Rosario Central. "My idea is to stay another year in Europe and then return to Argentina. But we already know how football is. We have to take it year by year and see how it goes", he pointed out in an interview with Argentinian TV a few months ago.
So far, he's played for many of the biggest clubs in Europe, like Benfica in Portugal, Real Madrid in Spain, Manchester United in England, Paris Saint Germain in France and now Juventus in Italy. Whether a successful season with La Vecchia Signora changes his mindset one year from now is something will discover in the future, although for now this looks like it will be Ángel Di María's last dance in Champions League football.
