"Real Madrid or nothing": Rudiger reveals he rejected another BIG offer
The German international was presented as a Real Madrid player, and what he said shocked a few people
I has been know for a while, but now it's official. Former Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger was presented as a Real Madrid player, after leaving the London club on a free. After posing with the historied white shirt of the Merengues, Rudiger spoke with the press and what he had to said took a few people by surprise.
The German international had many offers after deciding he would leave Chelsea when his contract expired, but it seems his heart was set from a very early moment. "The first time I spoke with Ancelotti was in April and that contact was very important, that's when I decided to play for this club", Rudiger said. "Other people have contacted me, but I was convinced of what I wanted. There was an offer from Barcelona but I told my agent it's Real Madrid or nothing".
"Ancelotti told me that he wanted me at Real Madrid and that he trusted me and that he would depend on me. That's enough for me", he added. "It's Madrid and you can't guarantee anything but I'm ready to fight to play". Rudiger's conviction to chose Real Madrid over their historic rivals is sure to be appreciated by Los Blancos fans, particularly after the Mbappé saga.
Antonio Rudiger joins Real Madrid from Chelsea, where he joined in 2017 for 35 million euros. He would go on to play 202 matches for the Blues, where he'd become one of the top centre backs in Europe. He was a key part of the UEFA Champions League in 2021 and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2022 under Thomas Tuchel, although Rudiger departs England having won just one local trophy with Chelsea, the 2018 FA Cup, and no Premier League titles.
