OFFICIAL: Real Madrid announces signing of Rudiger
The Spanish giants made official a deal that was all but done
The world of football never stops. It doesn't matter if you're champions of Spain, champions of Europe or champions of the world, you need to keep on moving, and nobody knows this better than Real Madrid. Unfussed by the celebrations at Cibeles about their 14th European crown, the Spanish giants have made official today a signing that was known about for days.
Antonio Rudiger, who was for many the toughest defender in the Premier League, is the newest Real Madrid player. The defender, who is leaving Chelsea, had a meeting hours ago and signed his contract with the Spanish club: four seasons and a salary of nine million euros, with an release clause of 400 million euros.
"I am very proud to announce that I will play for Real Madrid. I am very excited about all the challenges that lie ahead and I can't wait to play my first games for this great club," Rudiger said on his social media.
Rudiger is an express request of Carlo Ancelotti, who sees the German as the definitive solution to any defensive leaks he may have to deal with last season. The contract that Rudiger signed will run until 2026. The highlight is that Real Madrid won the race to sign the German, that included Juventus, Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona and even Paris Saint Germain.
Rudiger, who arrived at Chelsea from AS Roma in 2017 for 35 million euros, played 203 games for the Blues and was a key member of the side that won the 2021 Champions League under Thomas Tuchel.
