Antony: Why Ten Hag wants the skillful Brazilian
The manager knows the player and his potential of helping United
Antony Matheus Dos Santos is the full name of the player Erick Ten Hag wants for his new Manchester United. Managing him while being in Ajax, the Dutch manager knows how and why he can improve the team.
Arrived from Brasilian side Sao Paulo in June of 2020 for a fee of 15M euros, the 22-year-old seems to be a possible solution for United's problems on the wings, as Jadon Sancho doesn't show the level he achieved at Borussia Dortmund and Marcus Rashford is not developing as much as he can with the potential shown in 2019 and 2020.
This is why Ten Hag wants Antony. The Brazilian can bring versatility as he plays in both left and right wings, dribbling to the outside and assisting with a cross or closing to the middle to get on his left foot and shoot.
But what characterizes him the most is his dribbling with stunning skill moves. This took the winger to be one of the top 3 players with most dribbles completed in the Eredivisie last season, as well as being the standout and a starter in every game of Brasil's Olympic gold medal-winning team.
Since his arrival in the Johan Cruyff Arena, he managed to get 22 goals and 20 assists in 72 games played with Ajax, these stats made Amsterdam Side reject the last 60M offer from United and ask for a record fee of a 100M.
Erik Ten Hag knows him really well and can probably make him succeed and reach his peak at Old Trafford, as fans hope the signing can be completed in the next few days, and help bring Manchester United back into England and Europe's top flight.
