The UNEXPECTED guest that welcomed Messi and Argentina to Miami
The Albiceleste players enjoyed the company of a former teammate as they get ready for their game in US soil
The Argentina National Team is set to take on the final few friendlies in preparation for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, and that's taking them on a mini-tour of the US, as they're facing Honduras and Jamaica in American soil. The first of these clashes will take place in Miami and that has allowed Messi and company a reunion with one of their old running mates: Gonzalo Higuain.
The former Real Madrid and Juventus striker has been playing in the MLS since 2020, featuring for Inter Miami, and he made some time to drop by and welcome his former Albiceleste teammates to his new home. The MLS franchise shared a video of the reunion in the social media channels, showing a very happy Higuain greeting the Argentina squad.
It must have been a bittersweet moment for Higuain, who played 75 games for the Albiceleste between 2009 and 2018, scoring 31 goals and taking part in three World Cups for Argentina, but also becoming a scapegoat and a laughing figure in his home country, mocked for some of his infamous misses at various tournaments.
"People think that we have an easy life, and we don't, not at all. We don't have the same right that you do to walk down the street; people insult you and you can't react, because if you do, the repercussion is enourmous. If you lose a game, miss a goal or lose an important game you can't go out", recently pointed out the 34 year old striker. "The football player lives conditioned by a sporting result. It is a sport, a job, and that should not be forgotten. We are all human".
However, Higuain is now living one of the best moments of his career at the United States: "I'm already at a point in my life where neither praise makes me feel better nor criticism makes me feel worse. The most important thing is balance, and when one is calm with oneself, the other is secondary", he explained.
"I am calm because I gave my life and more for the Argentine National Team. I am proud of what I gave for the National Team and I do not regret anything at all", Gonzalo Higuaín explained, and surely nobody knows that better than the Argentina players he went to say hello before their upcoming match.
