The surprise deal that could land Arsenal one of their main targets
The Gunners look set to benefit from a move happening elsewhere to get their business done
Three-way deals are a difficulty sight to spot in football. Normally, it takes months of negotiations for players, agents and clubs to all agree, so imagine what adding another party to the negotiation can do. However, when they work, they can prove very productive, as the Aubameyang/Batshuayi/Giroud deal of 2018 did for Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea respectively. Now, it's lookting like the Gunners could be set to gain from another (sort of) three-way deal.
While not as strictly symmetric as the one mentioned, truth is Arsenal seems to be in a position to benefit from another club's negotiations, and here's how. The Gunners are said to be after Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca. It was looking like a hard bargain, as in addition to the 45 million euros fee required by the Italian club wanted for the international player, it seemed the player was looking to remain in Italy.

Scamacca, who has scored 16 goals in Serie A in 36 appearances this season, had reportedly said about his transfer rumours: "I think my priority now is to make my mark in Italy. Having said that, the transfer market is somewhat unpredictable. When the time comes to make a decision, I'll try to make the best one. Serie A is of a very high level and my priority is to continue here". This played right into the hands of the other horse in the race to sign him, Inter Milan.
Lukaku's move back to Inter could be the main factor in Scamacca becoming a gunner
Now, however, with rumours coming up that Belgium star Romelu Lukaku could be on the move from Chelsea, the Nerazzurri have emerged as the prime candidates for the Belgian to return to the club he left just a season ago. This would take Inter out of the picture for signing Scamacca, and make Arsenal once again the prime candidate to get their target, should they decide to improve their offer from the initial 40 million euros to something more akin to Sassuolo's valuation of the player.
