He's been flying for Arsenal but he wants TRIPLE the wages

The Gunners have had a key player in him since he joined, but the time to talk about a new deal has come and he wants what he's due

Gabriel Martinelli has been one of the revelations of the season so far for Arsenal, but the Gunners will need to pay for what they get very soon. The Brazilian hit the ground running ever since joining Arsenal in 2019 from Brazil, but this season he's taken a step forward, and now he wants the proper compensation.

While many spoke of his high potential, few expected Martinelli to make such an early impact at Arsenal when he arrived from Ituano, a side playing in the Serie D, Brazil's fourth tier. Signed for a meagre £6 million, he seemed more like one for the future, but Martinelli accrued 10 goals and 4 assists in 26 appearances across al competitons that very first season. He's been improving season by season and right now he's one of Mikel Arteta's most trusted and dangerous men, and he's already on four goals and two assists in Arsenal's first nine Premier League games, incluiding one of each in the Gunners outing against Liverpool.

However, his contract expires in 2024, and while renovation talks are ongoing, the Gunners are going to have to fork out the cash if they want to keep the Brazilian's scintillating perfomances. Martinelli is currently on a £70,000 a week deal, but he's allegedly asking for nearly triple the wages to extend his deal, looking instead for £200,000 a week, if reports by UK newspaper The Daily Mail are to be believed.

While it's undoubtedly a big jump, many would argue Arsenal would be fools not to offer Martinelli the wages to please him. At just 21 years old, we're only beginning to see what he can do, and the Gunners wouldn't be very clever to repeat a situation like they had with Ashley Cole back in 2005, when they lost a key player to a rival like Chelsea for low-balling their wage offer.

"He's a great player, I think today he had an outstanding performance against a top defender, against a top team and he made a difference in the game as well as the other players and that's the next level to step up in these games and actually make things happen to win it", commented Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta on his Brazilian maverick, "What he deserves is clear, his hunger, his determination, his love for this game and you don't know where he is going to reach, he's always asking and willing for more".

For his part, Gabriel Martinelli has been clear that his first option will always be Arsenal: "Of course, I want to stay", said the Brazilian when asked about his contract situation, "We are talking. Let's see what is going to happen, but I want to stay, of course. I think it's my best season here at Arsenal. I'm so happy for this moment".
