"They're different": Thierry Henry's on Arsenal's Premier League chances
The legendary Gunners striker spoke about this season's Arsenal squad and how he sees them
Thierry Henry cried on the day he announced his departure from Arsenal. However, he did it convinced it was the right thing to do; with the Gunners entering an era of austerity following the construction of the Emirates Stadium and with Arsène Wenger's future very much in the air, Henry saw what was coming and chose to move on, a decision that was rewarded with a treble winning season with Barcelona. Clearly, the writing on the wall became true as the Gunners fell from title contenders to top-four challengers and then Europa League hopefuls.
Thierry Henry now believes in his former team
Now, however, the iconic French striker is seeing something he hasn't seen at Arsenal in a long time. Since Henry's playing days, the Gunners haven't won a league title and last competed in the Champions League during the 2016-17 campaign. Now, with Mikel Arteta in charge, they are currently in first place in the Premier League despite their first loss of the season at Old Trafford and aim to recover top-four status.
"The team is different," Henry told US network CBS. "When you get the likes of Gabriel Jesus, you get Saliba, that can allow you to play higher, and Odegaard the way he is right now, and still Bukayo Saka. The thing with Gabriel Jesus is he knows how to win; he won. He's bringing that into the team and you can see it".
Arsenal have indeed looked like a different team this season, and were unbeaten in their first five matches before their shock loss to Manchester United. "I believe. I didn't believe for a very long time that we could do something", explained Henry.
"I worry about the Europa League", added the former France striker, who played 376 games for Arsenal. "Why? Because of the depth of the team. I think the starting XI is good enough, but when you're going to go into those games at one point during the season, a long season, it might be a bit much. But I can see a team and a togetherness, and I like that".
Henry scored 228 goals for Arsenal across all competitions
Arsenal are set to make their Europa League debut against FC Zurich, a competition they never won under it's current format, losing the 2019 final against Chelsea.
