Mourinho and Roma close to another BIG NAME after Dybala move
The Italian team is working to get into the Champions League this coming season, and they're putting together a mighty team
José Mourinho is building his team of gladiators to charge at the gates of Champions League qualification next season and things keep looking up. Having made official the signing of Paulo Dybala as one of the men to lead the team, the work carries on and now he looks set to add another name with a lot of weight, Georginio Wijnaldum
According to Roman newspaper Il Messaggero, negotiations are fairly advanced and AS Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto already has reached a personal agreement with the player. Wijnaldum is reportedly in love with the Eternal City and can't wait to join the Giallorossi.
In truth, this is a move both Roma and Wijnaldum need, after the Dutch midfielder chose to leave Liverpool for Paris Saint Germain, only to spend a relatively opaque season in France, failing to consolidate himself as a starter.
Right now, the biggest thing preventing the negotiation from moving forward is the Dutchman's wages, which are of 9 million euros. After the Giallorossi's effort to fit Dybala's contract, another big salary will be nearly impossible. So far, there's no agreement, with Roma wanting a loan with an option to buy, where PSG take half of the bill, while the Parisian outfit demands a permanent deal and an 18 million euros fee.
This isn't the first time Georginio Wijnaldum is close to moving to AS Roma. In fact, the Dutch midfielder was about to join the Italian team in 2018, after shining at PSV, but he finally chose Liverpool. Now, four years later, the move could finally happen, provided an agreement between the clubs can be reached.
