"Everything is possible": Atletico president on SHOCKING news of Barça lawsuit
Enrique Cerezo spoke on the Griezmann issue after news came about that Barcelona could sue Atletico de Madrid
The situation around Antoine Griezmann continues to develop. The 31 year old forward has been at a crossroads recently, as despite thriving in his second stint with Diego Simeone's Atlético Madrid, he has been used as a super sub this season, due to a potential clause that could be triggered in his deal. With Barcelona threatening legal action, the Colchoneros club president Enrique Cerezo spoke on the matter.
The Atlético Madrid president discussed the Griezmann issue, as well as FC Barcelona's intention to sue el Colchoneros club for its handling of Griezmann's minutes: "I don't know, nothing has come to us. We do not know if we have been sued or not", he explained.
After falling out of favour at Barcelona, Griezmann was loaned to Atlético. As part of the deal, the Blaugrana's included a stipulation by which should the Frenchman play more than the 50% of the minutes he was available to play, he would be subject to the activation of a 40 million euro buy clause. Now, the Colchoneros are using the Frenchman sparringly, playing him only after the 60th minute to avoid activation of the clause, while Barcelona understands the clause was already activated last season when Griezmann played around 80% of the minutes he was available.
According to Cerezo, there is no such thing as a "Griezmann issue", and there is nothing to solve. "We have not met [with FC Barcelona] nor do we intend to do so", he replied when pressed on the matter, "The Griezmann issue is very clear and everyone knows how it is".
"Everything is possible in this life", added Cerezo on the matter, doing his best to avoid the topic, "Today, it is not time to talk about Griezmann. He is a magnificent footballer, who plays for Atlético de Madrid, who is from Atlético de Madrid and we have what we have: Griezmann. I always say that he is one of the best players in Europe, not to mention the first or the third, but he is one of the great players in Europe".
For his own part, Antoine Griezmann spoke recently on the matter, assuring that he is only focusing on his football: "I'm here to do my job. The only thing I can do is go back like today, try to make a difference and then we'll see". The Atlético Madrid player has scored three goals in just 165 minutes played.
