Barcelona lost a number of players during the last FIFA international break, but they could be compensated for it. The Catalan giants have been the team most impacted by what's often called "FIFA virus" in Spain during this break. The players who have returned to Barcelona injured are Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, Jules Koundé, and Memphis Depay. The most critical case is the Uruguayan defender, who will have surgery on the advice of the club.
Ronald Araujo will be out for the World Cup, but his club will be less affected
Since the injury will keep Araujo out longer than 28 days, FIFA will have to pay Barça until the player is cleared medically and is able to resume training. From the twenty-eighth day after the injury, the club can receive the maximum of 20,458 euros each day.
This is according to the Club Protection Programme by FIFA, the rules of which state: "Cover will be provided to footballers while under the orders of the respective member association in the official 'A' international matches of their national team, including all matches, practices, training, training matches, travel and time spent away from their club".
This protection package was adopted three seasons ago and is in effect until December 31st, 2022. The amount to be received changes according the player's his fixed wages, while the maximum payout under this club protection package is 7.5 million euros for each footballer.

That way, Barcelona will have some compensation for losing one of Xavi's key defensive pieces to international duty. Ronald Araujo had played seven games so far for Barcelona and looked set to be a starter for the rest of the season. Of course, there is no protection for Uruguay, who will lose one of their best players in Qatar 2022 after the centreback decided to operate on his injury and won't play again during 2022.
