Barcelona is preparing a stunning offer for Real Madrid player Marco Asensio. It would be a shock to many, but according to reports, the Blaugranas are interested in the Merengue forward, and could be set to make a move as soon as possible.

When the transfer market opens in January after the World Cup, Barça intends to continue their signing spree, and the Spain international is allegedly on Xavi Hernandez' list. The 26 year old Asensio, has less than a year left on his contract at Real Madrid and may soon be joining his club's fiercest rivals, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

It's not been fun times for the Spanish forward under Carlo Ancelotti, as he has frequently had trouble getting playing time. Most recently, he was seen on the bench venting his annoyance at not being used during Madrid's match against Mallorca last weekend. Asensio was rumoured to be leaving the Santiago Bernabeu over the summer, with links to Arsenal and Manchester United, but no deal came through.

Meanwhile, Barcelona plan to continue their heavy activity on the market, despite their alleged economic trouble which hanged as a shadow over their every move during the summer window. Because of his age, skill level and tactical versatility, they see a value in a move for Asensio, who'd be both a experienced player for their squad as well as having lots of space for development.

As it is to be expected, the list of players who donned both the blaugrana of Barcelona and the blanco of Real Madrid is not all that long, with just 37 names ever making the switch, one way or the other. The last to play for one whilst having played for the other is actually Marcos Alonso, who joined Barça this summer from Chelsea having come through the Merengue academy. On the other hand, the last to have moved directly is Argentine striker Javier Saviola, who left Barcelona for Real Madrid in 2007 after his contract expired. The last player to have left Real Madrid to move directly to Barcelona is in fact current Spain manager Luis Enrique, who did it all the way back in 1996.

For his part, since joining Real Madrid in 2014, Marco Asensio has scored 50 goals in 239 games. However, it appears increasingly likely that his future lies elsewhere, with the Barcelona interest far from his only option as teams from all across Europe are also showing a lot of interest.
