"I knew he didn't believe in me": Braithwaite FIGHTS BACK after leaving Barça
The Danish striker spoke about his time at the club and the way in which he was forced out
Martin Braithwaite may have already moved on from Barcelona, but he still has a few things to say about his former club. The Danish international had a torrid time at the Camp Nou; signed as an emergency stop gap, he was mocked many times and at times pointed out as a clear example of everything that was going wrong for the Blaugranas. Now a player for city rivals Espanyol, he had a few words about his experience with Barça.

One of Barcelona's summer "dramas", Braithwaite's situation with Barcelona was ugly. The Danish striker was one of the assets the the team wanted to get rid of, while he wanted to finish out his contract, despite having the supporters against him and being forced to endure an untenable scenario. The player was ultimately saved by Espanyol in the closing hours of the market, but he isn't forgetting about the Blaugranas.
"I think I have proven many critics wrong. I was top scorer last season before getting injured", explained Braithwaite, "But then there was a change of coach, he wanted something else, and that's part of football life. But I have shown that I have the level to play in Barcelona".
The Danish international is open about having know that he had no future with Barcelona, despite his insistance on fulfilling his contract: "I have known for a long time, [head coach Xavi Hernandez] did not believe in me and I had to leave Barcelona". However, he did not like the way in which he was pushed away. "I don't know if I was supposed to take it as an intimidation. But I think it's important that you always think about other people's mental health".
Braithwaite had a torrid time at Barça in the last few months
"I know how things work in this world. Unfortunately, football is also a business. But luckily I also have some experience, which means you don't always have to be emotionally involved in these things", added Martin Braithwaite, "In many ways, I can only smile a little at all the things that have happened behind the scenes". The Dane left Barcelona after 58 games and 10 goals scored.
