CRUCIAL meeting between Barcelona's Laporta and Chelsea's Boehly
Two of the most important men in world football met personally to discuss business
Negotiations in football are often conducted secretly, as the leaking of any information can harm the position of either party. However, this time there are little doubts as to the meeting between Barcelona president Joan Laporta and the new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly.
The authorities of two of the most important clubs in European and world football are holding a summit in the Catalan city, as the Blues owner has travelled to discuss a number of issues. The central issue will be that of César Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso.
Both Chelsea players are in Barcelona's target list, and the Blaugranas want to close down the deals as soon as possible. Continuing from his modus operandi since the takeover, Boehly will run the negotiations personally, something the previous Chelsea owner rarely did. Of the two, Azpi is the one closer to sealing the deal, as he has reportedly already agreed on a two-year deal, with the option for a third.
However, there are other issues on the agenda, reportedly that of Serginho Dest and Frenkie de Jong, both of whom are targeted by Chelsea. According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, American Boehly is keen on a swap deal, which are very common in the American leagues like NBA, MLB and NFL.
Its worth pointing out that Joan Laporta recently close down the door on De Jong's exit, but having mutual interests with the other club could perhaps ease the move, while Chelsea (who will be competing in the Champions League next season) could prove more enticing for the player than Manchester United, so far the only club chasing him.
