ON THE FIRST DAY: Ferran Torres injured as Barça fears US Tour absence
One of Xavi's favourties could miss out on the club's preseason tour after he sustained an injury on the first day of work
The very first days of training are always troublesome, as players return from the freedom and fun of vacation to prepare for one of the most physically demanding jobs in the world. However, it's an odd ocurrance that a player gets a serious injury as coaches prepare for this. And yet, it can happen, or so it seems to be the case with Barcelona's Ferran Torres.
The Blaugrana squad went back to training this week under the orders of Xavi Hernández, with the mission of getting ready for the tour of the United States that will have them play against Beckham's Inter in Miami, Real Madrid in Las Vegas, Juventus in Dallas, and NY Red Bulls in New York between July 19 and July 30.
However, it could be that Torres misses part or the entirity of that trip, as he sustained an injury during the first day of training. According to a statement by Barcelona: "The first team player @FerranTorres20 has sustained an injury to his right foot. His evolution will mark his availability for the next training sessions".
However, according to some sources there's an early optimism around the club, as the injury would at the very least allow him to join the rest of his teammates on the trip while he recovers.
The 2022-23 season will be the first full season Ferran Torres plays for Barcelona, after his arrival from Manchester City in the winter market last season. He quickly became one of Xavi Hernández' favourites, although he'll be facing more competition the coming season and will likely have to fight for a place. Last season, he finished with a tally of six goals and six assists in 24 matches for Barcelona across all competitions.
