Barcelona board SECRETIVE as they DENY forcing De Jong out to United
It's mixed messages once again from the Barcelona higher up as they insist things are ok despite rumours
If there's one thing that's really complicating all things Barcelona at the moment, is the mixed messages. Just this week we talked about the flip-flopping when it came to Ousmane Dembele, and now we're seeing something very similar with Frenkie de Jong and his move to Manchester United.
Frenkie de Jong may soon have to leave his "dream club"
As it became known that the Catalan giants had accepted the Red Devils' bid for De Jong, many thought that Barcelona would be eager to shift the former Ajax player, and indeed rumours came soon there after of higher ups in the club structure communicating to the player that he would have to either take the move or sit down at the table to negotiate a wage decrease, something De Jong and his agent have been adamant they don't plan to do.
However, now the directors at the club, mainly club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Mateu Alemany, are saying that they are in no way forcing De Jong out of the institution he called his "dream club. "It's not true that we are forced to sell Frenkie de Jong, this is not correct", pointed out Laporta, while also assuring that his presence with the club in their US pre season tour is entirely up to the head coach: "Frenkie's trip to the United States will be decided by Xavi".
Alemany was slightly less evasive, admitting that the deal could prove important for the club, but still standing his ground: "Frenkie is a very important player and we count on him. But we know La Liga's Fair Play tells us to sell players".
Frenkie de Jong has always insisted he is happy at Barcelona
Despite this, it seems clear that the offer was accepted for a reason, and if Barcelona clear the 17 million euros they owe Frenkie de Jong, it could be that he has no choice but to accept the move, although for now, Barcelona remains secretive.
