"I've had a lot of contact with him": Dutch legend talks about Frenkie de Jong
One of the most famous Dutch players of the previous eras spoke about the potential move of Frenkie de Jong
"Barcelona is just my dream club. Also from a young age, I just said it, too. I've never regretted my choice despite the fact that I had hoped for more in terms of prizes than I've achieved so far. But I have never regretted my choice", those were the words of Frenkie de Jong when questioned about his potential move to Manchester United during the last International Break, and according to one Barcelona legend, nothing has changed.
Ronald Koeman isn't just a Dutch football manager who was in charge of Barcelona before Xavi Hernández took over the reigns. He's a certified Barça legend, an icon of the club in the 90s and the scorer of the only goal during Barcelona's first European title, at the 1992 European Cup final.
It's only logical then that when was speaking during the Koeman Cup golf tournament in Sant Esteve de Sesrovires, Catalunya, he was questioned on the matter of another Dutch player in Barcelona, and a former trainee of his: Frenkie de Jong.
"I've had a lot of contact with him", explained Koeman, "I know the situation of Frenkie and he said it himself the other day, he wants to stay. It was his intention to stay at Barcelona and nothing else. That is the only thing I know".
It's another bucket of could water for Erik ten Hag and Manchester United, who remain extremely keen on making Frenkie de Jong the centre of their new attack, but still can't quite convince the midfielder of making the move from the Camp Nou to Old Trafford.
