He left as a kid and now he returns to Barcelona on a FREE deal
One of the most promising prospects of his generation at La Masia is making a return to Barcelon
He was one of the many players who, hours away from the closing of the transfer window, didn't know where his future was. Now, however, Hector Bellerin will be making a dream return to his childhood club, as he's set to complete a move to FC Barcelona.
The 27 year old right back joined Arsenal in 2011 from Barcelona's youth academy, and went on to have a rollercoaster of a career for the Gunners, mixing patches of great form with very bad moments. However, since the arrival of Mikel Arteta he's been on the sidelines, despite showing great form for Real Betis as he spent last season there on loan.
With the Andalusian team unable to afford his services on a permanent basis, Arsenal and Bellerin have now agreed on a free transfer with Barcelona despite still having a contract until 2023. As per The Athletic, "Bellerin has agreed to join Barcelona and will be taking a pay cut to make the move possible", while also waiving "any payments he was owed by Arsenal".
The right back will sign a one year deal with the Catalan giants, with no contract extension options, which surely means he will have to impress Xavi Hernández and the rest of the club to secure a longer stay at the Catalan club.
This way, Hector Bellerín stint at Arsenal ends after making a total of 239 games for the Gunners across all competitions. He won the FA Cup three times while playing for the North London club, in 2015, 2017 and 2020.
