"On the right track": Javier Tebas praises the work Barcelona have done
The president of LaLiga spoke about the situation for the Catalan giants regarding signings and their economy
Whenever you hear about Barcelona moving in this transfer market, there's always one thing in common, the economic realities that tie the club. Ever since the indiscrimante spending of the Josep Maria Bartomeu presidency, Barcelona have a to move around very carefully, not least of in terms of registering the players they sign. However, La Liga president Javier Tebas could be giving the Blaugranas some good news.
The boss of the Spanish league spoke about the situation the Catalan giants are facing, and was very commendatory on the work done by Barça president Joan Laporta and his sporting director Mateu Alemany. "We've been following them, but when they show us the documentation of the income and some players they have to sell, we will see if they can sign everyone up. They know what they have to do. I think they have a little work left for everything they have to do, but I think they are on the right track", commented Tebas.
"They have sold 10% of their audiovisual rights for 207 million euros. Then they increased that part to 25%, which I think means about 350 more... That would already be 500 million euros and I think they still have another third income for another 200. With this and if they release some players, that explains their signings. They have been able to sell assets, which was something they had to do, and cut wages; that's what allows them to sign players", explained Tebas.
However, the LaLiga boss was very critical of the situation Frenkie de Jong is living, with Barcelona putting him under pressure to lower his wages or move away from the club: "What LaLiga is going to do is to comply with our collective agreement with the [Association of Spanish Footballers]. The players cannot be split from the team or pressured, it is what the collective agreement, the Law, reason and ethics mark. From there, Barcelona knows the rules and the responsibilities that exist in that aspect".
Overall, good news for Barcelona, who have to submit everything before August 12, the date when the Spanish league starts.
