Barça have their LATEST TARGET: the player Xavi wants to help their defence
The Blaugrana team keep on signing, and now they're eyeing a player from a rival club
Barcelona have their new target: Juan Foyth. Having fixed the problems that didn't allow them to register new players and which tested the nerves of their fans ahead of their league debut, they're back at it. Having missed on César Azpilicueta, who chose to remain at Chelsea, now the Blaugranas are aiming for the Argentine.
Claudio Curti, the agent for Foyth, met with
Barça's sporting director Mateu Alemany this week at the Ciutat Esportiva de Sant Joan Desp, according several sources. The team is interested in the Argentinian, who has a Spanish passport, as they see him as the perfect option for the right-back position.
Foyth is a crucial player for Villarreal, and they don't want him to leave. So much so that the club will ask for the 42 million euros that are required to trigger his release clause in the event that any kind of approach for the Argentine is made by Barcelona. There would be no negotiation, agreement or anything of the sort.
Having come through from the Estudiantes de La Plata academy in Argentina, Foyth began his career as a central defender but later, over time, he began to play more as a right back. After struggling to adapt at Tottenham Hotspur under countrymen Mauricio Pochettino, he managed to save his career at Villarreal following a loan spell, and then developed become a crucial member of Unai Emery's team throughout the previous season.
Since joining in 2021, Juan Foyth has played more than 70 matches for the club, showcasing his strong aerial game, his ability to hold the ball, and his capacity to bring out play from the back. He won a UEFA Europa League with Villarreal in 2021, and was part of the Argentina National Team that beat Italy to win the 2022 Finalissima.
