The player Barça want GONE and they CAN'T GET RID OF
The Blaugranas have move brilliantly in the market, but there's one player they can't quite move away
Forget about Frenkie de Jong or Memphis Depay. The true stone in Barcelona's shoe right now is a much less fancied player, Martin Braithwaite. With the Catalan giants looking to lower their wage costs wherever possible they want him gone, but the Dane is refusing to budge and he could prove a costly mistake.
On February 2020, FC Barcelona announced the signing of the Danish striker from Leganes, after receiving permission to sign him outside of a transfer window due to Ousmane Dembélé's long-term injury, paying the 18 million euros release clause. Now, however, they're surely wishing they played any of the youngster from La Masía.
Barcelona is putting all the pressure they can excert on the Danish striker to quit the team this summer, but Braithwaite is refusing to acknowledge the message. Barça head coach Xavi has told him that he won't be in contention for a spot. In fact, the Dane was one of the players who was left behind and didn't travel to the American tour with the rest of the team. However, Braithwaite doesn't seem to be concerned by the possibility of missing the World Cup after going the entire year without playing.
The Barcelona directors believed that the attacker would have no problem finding a new club, but although the former Leganés player has an offer from Saudi Arabia on the table, he remains unconvinced. The club is now considering the option of granting him free agency, but Braithwaite is unwilling to forgive the two years' worth of wages that he would be owed, which doesn't help the club reach their objetives.
In a world were Barcelona used all of their good name and brand power to attract top players to their club, it's looking like the idea of leaving the Camp Nou isn't very tempting for those who they want to get rid of.
