Depay told to hold departure as Barça STRUGGLE to close down deals
The Dutch star was reportedly given a greenlight to depart, but now the Catalan club are asking him to stay put for now
The situation at Barcelona is chaotic, and not only for the coach and directors, but also for the players. The club is still struggling to close down many of their top priority signings, while also unsure on which players they will lose, and this leaves a problem when it comes to planning what comes next. One of the most affected by this is none other than Memphis Depay.
The Dutch forward joined Barça just one year ago, moving from Olympique de Lyon on a free transfer. However, his perfomances weren't has good as expected, and he struggled to find a place in the team after recovering from back to back injuries in December and January.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, the club would have communicated to him that it would be for the best if he was to look for a new team, due to the foreseeable lack of minutes that the Dutch international could have in Xavi's new project. However, now they've asked him to hold on.
Where's the problem? Barcelona are still unsure what the future holds for the signing of Raphinha and the contract renewal of Dembele, either one of which could earn a spot for Depay if things don't go as planned.
Along the same lines, Sport reports that Memphis Depay isn't thrilled about any of the proposals he's received so far, as he's looking for a Champions League team with an interesting role for him. For the moment, things remain in the air for the Dutchman, who scored 13 goals and provided 2 assists in 37 games for Barcelona during his first season.
