BOMBSHELL: Barcelona informed they CAN'T REGISTER new signings
The Blaugrana club was looking to have a great summer, but now LaLiga are putting them under pressure
The dreaded day has finally come. Barcelona was looking like they were having a great summer, adding top players to their squad across all positions, but the warnings by LaLiga and Javier Tebas weren't in vain, and now the Blaugranas can't register their new players.
In the official presentation of Robert Lewandowski, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta reaffirmed that the Blaugrana club had submitted all the necessary paperwork to LaLiga in order to achieve the registration of all the signings.
Despite acknowledging they were awaiting word from those in charge of the competition, the Blaugrana president showed great confidence: "We have done the job well and we believe that we meet all the requirements. The documentation has already been sent and we are waiting for the response from the League. There may be some disparity, but we understand that there will be no problems because we have complied with everything and the players will be able to register If not, we are prepared to apply a fourth deal and we will do it".
Laporta reported an estimate of 868 million euros income for the deals done in recent weeks and claimed to have worked quite well to "clean up the club" and fall within fair play regulation. However, now LaLiga are informing the Blaugrana club that right now they do not meet the necessary requirements to register their five signings (Lewandowski, Koundé, Kessie, Christensen and Raphinha) and the two renewed players (Dembélé and Sergi Roberto).
According to the entity that controls the Spanish league, Barcelona will have to go through with their fourth arranged deal (the sale of the remaining 24.5 percent of Barça Studios) and further reduce their existing pay bill, which is significantly higher than the cap set by LaLiga. They're also mandating that Barça must sell a number of players (ideally Frenkie De Jong and Memphis Depay) in order to meet the requirements necessary to register the new additions.
While Joan Laporta has commented that should the fourth deal be necessary, it will be executed, there are surely doubts about the selling of Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay, who're still to find suitable takers.
