"It HURT me a lot": Ex Barça prospect HITS BACK at how they treated him
One of the most promising La Masia graduates of the last times spoke about his departure from the club
There was a time when Riqui Puig was Barcelona's most promising youngster. The now 23-year-old first burst in during Quique Setién's stint at the Blaugrana club and imposed himself as the leader of a new generation of Barça players and the symbol of a return to La Masia-led talent. However, he failed to carry on that momentum, he was dropped and now he's out of the club... and Riqui Puig isn't happy about it.
"Being in Barcelona while all my teammates were here in Los Angeles playing games... The truth is that it hurt me a lot" explained Puig during an interview with FOX Sports as he's presented as new Los Angeles Galaxy player. "It is a complicated situation because there were four other teammates who are not having a very good time, and that makes them have an even worse time, being in Barcelona alone and training with a physical trainer".
The former Blaugrana prodigy pointed out his disappointment with the club's decision to let him go, and he's clearly unhappy with it: "Sometimes you have to make decisions. They made that decision. I don't share it, but ok. The last stretch of my life in Barcelona did not go as I would like or they did not treat me as I would like. It is something that can be forgotten, it's ok".
As per the reasons for his dismissal, Puig knows what he lacked at the Camp Nou: "I never had a coach who fully trusted me. As a player you can lose confidence but you can never lose continuity". However, he knows he also owes a lot to the club for the career he's had so far: "I have to thank Barcelona because thanks to them I am who I am as a player".
Riqui Puig also spoke about his thoughts upon arriving at Los Angeles Galaxy, with which he was pleasently surprised: "The truth is that I did not imagine it that way, it is a very big club with many fans, when I arrived at the airport it was impressive. The facilities are spectacular".
