"If you don't win titles, another coach will come"
Xavi Hernandez is at his worst time as Barcelona coach, and he knows what he must do
"Would I understand if I get the sack? Of course. Barça is about winning and getting titles. Then come the sensations. The objective is to win titles this season": these were the words of Xavi Hernandez during his last press conference. The coach is living his worst moment at the helm of FC Barcelona, and even though he remains positive, he's surrounded by whispers.
This has been Xavi's most difficult period at Barcelona
Last season, many were amazed that in just 134 days in charge, Xavi had managed to turn the ship at Barça to the point where they absolutely thrashed Real Madrid 4-0. Now, however, one has to ponder where that ship is going and whether the La Masia graduate remains the right captain.
"We play with our idea. At the Bernabéu and also against Inter, we played the way we wanted", defended Xavi his team's latest performances, which saw the Blaugrana drop virtually out of the Champions League and lose the top of LaLiga. "Being protagonists, shooting closer to the area, with advanced defense. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't. By insisting you can continue to believe. We try to train well so that the results come out. We have a clear idea and the players feel comfortable".
However, Xavi is the first to admit that things aren't really going the way he wanted: "The situation is not the best. We started red hot but this doesn't stop me. We must go step by step. We are close in the league, three points behind the leader and the season is very long with other competitions. We must try to improve. From success to defeat there is very little sometimes. It's details and that is why we have to try to do more things".
"I'm a calm person and I want things to work out. I'm a culé and I won't stop. Nothing will stop me. I'll keep working to turn things around and give it my all", explained Xavi of his recent struggles to get the best out of the team, "I'll work even harder to convey to the players that the goal is still to win titles in October and this is long".

However, Xavi Hernandez knows he's far from irreplaceable: "I must be honest with the club, the players and the members. We have built a team to achieve success and I think so. I continue with all the enthusiasm in the world. Everyone encourages me, it feels like if a family member had died with all the messages I have received. At Barça there are no transition seasons. With the effort that has been made from the club, we have to go for titles. If they are not achieved, there will be consequences, as the president said, and perhaps they are for me. I don't want to look for excuses. If you don't win titles, another coach will come and he'll have a go".
