Xavi in TROUBLE as another dressing room BOMB goes off
The Barcelona manager is dealing with the players who used to be his teammates, and none of the are happy
Xavi Hernández has yet another dressing room bomb in Barcelona. The young manager was praised after his side's iconic 4-0 thrashing of Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu, with many claiming that in just 134 days since his appointment he had managed to alter the course for Barça; however, now many issues are beginning to appear.
After his row with Jordi Alba following a deal to sell him was orchestrated behind his back, now another former teammate is tired of Xavi's ways. Now, reports are coming out of Gerard Pique having a spat with his former teammate and current manager in the dressing room over a lack of playing time.
The seasoned defender Pique has only started one of the team's eight games this season, lining up against Cadiz in La Liga, and his only other presence came a substitute against Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League. In the wake of the signing of Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen, as well as the recent rise in importance of younger players Ronald Araujo and Eric Garcia, Pique is now very deep in Xavi's pecking order.
Things are in crescendo, as these reports come after rumours of the manager overhearing Pique's complaints about his playtime after Barça's 2-0 defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, to which his answer "Now you're going to play even less". He's far from the only Barcelona legend dropping in the pecking order, with Sergio Busquets having less and less minutes and the aforementioned Alba also in the same trajectory.
However, this comes an unexpected bit of good news for Barcelona and the board. Gerard Pique is the club's highest paid player, taking home 52 million euros a season despite repeated pay cuts over the last couple of seasons. Following his confrontation with Xavi, now many are expecting him to leave the club, potentially for less than he is currently owed. After the humiliating 8-2 loss to Bayern Munich in the 2020 Champions League, Pique declared: "If tomorrow [Ronald] Koeman tells me I have to go, I will leave football. I am not going to play in another team that is not Barcelona". Now the club are hoping he'll be good on his word.
