"Don't even bother": Uli Hoeness with BRUTAL message to Barcelona
The former Bayern Munich president was clear when it came to his take on the Lewandowski issue
Uli Hoeness has never had any qualms about speaking his mind. The former Bayern Munich president, who played for the Bavarian giants during the 1970s and then became part of the directors, was always a few moments with an open mic away from getting into another controversy. It seems things haven't changed all that much since his departure from the presidency in 2019, as this time, he got embroiled in the war of words revolving around Robert Lewandowski.
Hoeness, who currently holds a position as honorary president of Bayern Munich, spoke at an event about the situation with the Polish striker, and he was as brash and non-apologetic as ever. "I don't know anything about a new offer from Barça. The way things are in Munich, which I have heard in various conversations, Barcelona shouldn't even bother. Bayern's statements were clear. They say that Robert must fulfill his contract".
In the context of an alleged new offer from the Catalan club, reaching 40 million euros plus addons, it seems Hoeness is confident that Bayern's "NO" is final.
The World Cup winner with West Germany was also very blunt when it came to the question of Barcelona even having the means to sign a player like Lewandowski. "Apparently they are financial artists who, despite this high economic debt load they have, can still find a bank that will give them money to pay for signings as high as this one. To be honest, I can't imagine it happening", claimed Hoeness.
It's worth pointing out that if someone knows about "financial artistry" is precisely Uli Hoeness, who in 2014 admitted evading 28.5 million euros in taxes and was found guilty of seven counts of tax evasion, for which he was sentenced to three and a half years in prison.
