"I am not the only responsible": Nagelsmann after Bayern's worst start in 11 years
The German coach has come under pressure for his team's start to the season and he is fighting the critics
Something isn't working at Bayern Munich at the moment, and head coach Julian Nagelsmann wants to work it out. The Bavarian giants are on one of their worst starts to the season, and the words "crisis" and "sacking" have started to float around, but the former RB Leipzig coach is fending off the critics.
Bayern Munich is on a four-game winless streak, their worst start in the Bundesliga since 2011 and Julian Nagelmann has been questioned. However, the coach thinks it's not all on his hands and wants his players show their courage in their next fixture against Bayer Leverkusen: "They have to show what they are made of".
"I take constructive criticism very seriously. I feel a lot of responsibility and I invest a lot of time in my work. I am not responsible for everything and neither are the players. This is a team game", pointed out Nagelsmann, who won the Bundesliga with Bayern last season but has struggled to sustain that level of success.
The coach trusts that the turning point is coming and that the defending champions will show their quality soon: "It is always important to question everything, even yourself. I watched all the games again during the break and did a lot of analysis. We've talked about it with the team and I'm confident we'll have a good game".
Nagelsmann also stepped up in defence of two of his most important players, Sadio Mane and Joshua Kimmich, who have both struggled so far. "The player must implement what the coach asks of him. Mané will quickly find his way back to his best form. I'm sure he will", explained the coach. "Everyone can talk about Kimmich, but he is a very important player for us and for the national team. Obviously, you have things that he is good at and others that he can improve on. It is important that the player knows what he has to do", Nagelsmann noted.
Regardless, for now Bayern Munich stand 5th in the Bundesliga table, five points off leader Union Berlin, and Julian Nagelsmann knows that his team needs to snap out of it very soon.
