Problems at Bayern: Nagelsmann and Salihamidzic at odds
According to Munich newspaper Tageszeitung, the relationship between Nagelsmann and Salihamidzic, the sports director, is very tense.
Working relationships are tense at Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. According to Munich newspaper Tageszeitung, coach Julian Nagelsmann and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic are going through a period of tension due to differences in transfer policy and the way in which the renewal of important contracts.
Nagelsmann allegedly considers that it's taken too long to make certain decisions. For example, the negotiation with Thomas Müller (who has already signed a new contract), and Manuel Neuer and Robert Lewandowski (neither of whom have yet extended their contract) are deemed too slow by the manager. There's also the case of Serge Gnabry who seems to have felt that he was not valued enough and still has not reached an agreement with the club to prolong his contract., which expires in 2023.
There's also issues when it comes to getting the signings the manager deems necessary. The biggest example would be the signing of Nico Schlotterbeck, who will spend next season at Borussia Dortmund. After learning that Niklas Süle would not renew with Bayern but move to Dortmund on a free transfer, Nagelsmann considered that he needed another entral defender and Schlotterbeck was the perfect candidate.
Salihamidzic, however, felt that with Dayoy Upamecano, Lucas Hernández, Tanguy Nianzou and Benjamin Pavard there was enough options for the position. Nianzou didn't perform up to standard and by then Schlotterbeck had already committed to Dortmund.
It's not the first time Salihamidzic has problems with a manager, having already clashed with the current German coach Hansi Flick, who decided to end his contract early.
