"I came to Valencia because they showed real interest in me"
Edinson Cavani has been on form for the Spanish side, and he spoke on his months without a club and the challenge of Qatar 2022
Edinson Cavani is firing for Valencia CF. The Uruguayan striker has three goals in just five games played for the Che team, and he's showing that at 35 he's everybit as sharp as he was doing his prime with Napoli and Paris Saint Germain.
With this start to life in Spain, surely some of the clubs who passed on the chance to sign him are cursing themselves for letting the opportunity go, and that's something Cavani himself commented in a recent interview with sports media ESPN.
"It was normal. I wasn't anxious, but it's never a nice thing not to have a club. These are things that happen in football, but being part of a team always gives you peace of mindI was working, having the chance to train with the coaching staff and the kids of the Uruguayan Under 20 National Team", explained the striker, "I was getting ready, although it's normal that later the days start to pass and you start to really want to compete".
Having had a number of offers from a few clubs in Europe, South America and Asia, it was Valencia that Cavani chose as his next destination: "I had a desire to play in Spain, and also because it was a club that really showed me their interest. And honestly, I liked that challenge because I listened a lot to what was said about Valencia and its problems, so that sincerely motivated me, and that's why I decided to come to Valencia. Hopefully what one imagined can be fulfilled, that we can do it with our teammates and have a great season".
Edinson Cavani also spoke about the Uruguay National Team, with whom he'll tackle the Qatar 2022 World Cup. "Many players have gone through the National Team and I have had the luck to be part of a group with midfielders who were like machines in the middle. I think that now we have midfielders who have a slightly different characteristics, but who are showing in big clubs that they are key players", explained the striker.
