The UEFA Champions League final is always a historic ocassion, but this time there are quite a few records that could end up smashed when all is said and done
The Champions League final is always a historic match. No matter if the teams that are contesting Europe's most coveted trophy are historic sides or new comers, there's always something big to play for, something extra to go for.
The coming final between Real Madrid and Liverpool will be no different. Should the Merengue club win, they will (once again) break their own record for most wins in the competition; should the Reds take the crown, they'll lift their 7th title, matching AC Milan for second-most titles ever. However, there are other potential records at stake.
Ancelotti first to four UCL titles
Should Real Madrid win, Carlo Ancelotti will become the first ever manager to win the competition on four ocassions, with his previous wins coming in 2003 and 2007 with AC Milan, and 2014 with Real Madrid. He currently shares the top spot with Bob Paisley and Zinedine Zidane, with three wins each.

Liverpool first team to beat Real Madrid in a final of the UCL era
Real Madrid are synonimous with success in Europe, and the fact that they have never lost a final since the start of the Champions League era is a testament to that. In fact, Real Madrid have only lost a European Cup final thrice, first in 1962 to Benfica, then in 1964 to Inter Milan and then in 1981. The winner of that final? None other than Liverpool.
Benzema becomes all time record goalscorer in a single knockout stage
Should Real Madrid win, this edition of the Champions League will forever be remembered as the one in which Karim Benzema showed he could single handedly avoid defeat at will. But should he score in the final, he'll also become the top goalscorer in a single knockout stage of the competition, overcoming Cristiano Ronaldo's record of 10 goals in the latter stages of the competition. Alisson becomes first goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet in two finals
On the other hand, should Liverpool win, it could prove a defining night for Brazilian goalie Alisson Becker. Part of Liverpool's 2019 crowning run, that 2-0 result made him one of the few goalies to win it without conceeding a goal. Should he do it again, he'll be the only one to have kept a clean sheet in two Champions League finals.
Modric becomes second 36 year old to score at a final
Sustained excellence is proof of greatness. While several players older than 36 have featured in a Champions League/European Cup final, only one has scored in it, Paolo Maldini, who did it in 2005 against Liverpool. Should Modric score, he'd become only the second one to do it, and with the same victim.

Sadio Mané could break yet another record this year
Sadio Mané has been on a bit of record breaking spree lately, with him winning the African Cup of Nations for Senegal for the first time this year, and then taking his country to the World Cup for the third time in their history, the first time they've managed to do it consecutively. Should Mané score in the final, he will have scored more goals than anyone for an English club in the knockout stages. Another record gone.
