Chelsea gone MAD: They can't stop signing and offer 50 million for him
The Blues are looking to fix their troubled start to the Premier League with their chequebook
Chelsea have gone mad. The Blues been spending record amounts of money late in this transfer window, as they look set to spend £185 million in a single position if the rumours linking them with Gvardiol are confirmed. However, that won't stop them from spending even more money on other positions, and now they're linked with another big transfer fee as they chase Ajax's Edson Alvarez.
After a disappointing start to the season, Blues manager Thomas Tuchel is looking for reinforcements, and according to sports website The Athletic, an offer was made for Edson Alvarez of Ajax worth €50 million.
Chelsea escalated their hunt for a defensive midfielder due to inconsistencies in their central midfielders' form and fitness. With Mateo Kovacic is still recovering from an injury, N'Golo Kante is dealing with a hamstring issue, and Jorginho has had a challenging start to the season, the Blues are looking for a solution and they seem to have found it in the 24-year-old international from Mexico.
Alvarez, who left Club America in 2019 to join Ajax after signing a five-year contract, is known for his passing game, his strenght in the air and his tackles and interceptions. He has since played over 100 games for the Amsterdam club, as well as earned 58 caps for the Mexican National Team.
Should the move go through, it will add to a another record summer, in this case Ajax's, who has sold at a rate of over 200 million euros with the departures of Ryan Gravenberch (18,5 million euros to Bayern Munich), Sebastian Haller (31 million euros to Borussia Dortmund), Lisandro Martinez and Antony (57 and 100 million euros respetively, both to Manchester United). Should Edson Alvarez become a Chelsea player, it will be 266 millions in sales for Ajax.
