Chelsea paid 70 MILLION for him, and he'll be out for over a month
The Blues can't quite catch a break with their centrebacks, as their latest signing goes down with injury
At Chelsea they can't believe their bad luck. Back in the summer transfer window they had to do the impossible to sign a new centreback, when target after target fell through for them and they were forced to pay a near-record fee for Leicester City's Wesley Fofana. Well, now it's been less than two months and the Frenchman is already set to spend a long time injured.
The Blues had to pay over £72 million for Fofana, after the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen to Real Madrid and FC Barcelona respectively and other targets like Jules Koundé or Matthjis de Ligt chose other clubs to continue their careers.
However, their high spending in the market won't have a reward for now, as according to French newspaper L'Équipe Fofana will be out for four weeks due to a knee strain suffered in Chelsea's 3-0 Champions League triumph against AC Milan.
The former Saint-Étienne player had to leave the field shortly after scoring his first goal for his new team in the first half. However, there are some good news for Chelsea fans.
Despite initial worries, tests have shown that the center-back has simply sprained his knee. Although the exact length of time Wesley Fofana will be sidelined is unknown, medical staff has predicted that he will be out for about four weeks.
