"It's the start of something really exciting": Potter on Chelsea challenge
The former Brighton manager spoke about the challenges that lie ahead for him as Blues manager
Graham Potter is facing the biggest challenge of his career. The 47-year-old will be taking charge of one of the biggest clubs not just in England but in all of European and world football in Chelsea, after starting from the lower reaches in the fourth tier of Swedish football.

His appointment is a significant change from some of the big names like Jose Mourinho or Thomas Tuchel and Potter has become Chelsea's first English manager since Glenn Hoddle in the 1990s, but he's ready to leave his mark on Blues' history after vowing to contend for championships.
"The history of the club speaks for itself, but it's about trying to create that again, in our own way", explained the newly appointed manager in a recent interview. "It's an amazing history, fantastic tradition, a historic football club. You only have to walk around the place here and you see the pictures, trophies, names. It's incredible and it's a huge honour for me to be part of that now".
Speaking about the challenges he's about to face, Potter knows how he will tackle the needs of the club: "It's about creating a team that competes, that has respect, for each other, that is honest, that works together, so a combination of football and human values that we try to work with".
"It's nice to be able to take the next step and to be able to work with an exciting group of players that we have here and compete at the top, try and create a winning team and that's a fantastic opportunity for me", added Potter, who's set to debut as Blues manager later this week as they face RB Salzburg in the Champions League. "It's the start of a really exciting period. I was really excited and impressed by [the new ownership], firstly as people and then the vision for the club and what they wanted to do".

Chelsea will only be Graham Potter's fourth job in first team management, after taking the helm at Östersunds FK from 2011 to 2018, then spending a single season at Swansea City in 2018/19 before taking over at Brighton & Hove Albion until now.
