BACK AT IT: Chelsea submit a new bid in the FIGHT for KOUNDÉ
The Blues revisit one of their previous targets, after other options proved unfruitful
Chelsea continue to be one of the most active clubs in the transfermarket. After coming relatively unscathed from the Romelu Lukaku saga and closing two of their most important targets with Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly, the Blues are now looking for one more reinforments in central defence.
With their move for Nathan Ake collapsing when everything looked to be done, they've turned back to one of their previous targets: Sevilla's Jules Koundé. The 23 year old Frenchman was chased by Chelsea early in the window, but the player seemed to favour a move to Barcelona, so the Blues shifted to other targets.
Now, however, they're once again going after the Sevilla player. With Barcelona having still to deal with the economic repercusions of the Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski signings, Chelsea are trying to take their chance despite Barça president Joan Laporta telling the press they are "now looking at strengthening the defence".
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have submitted a new bid, this time reaching the £55 million value, and are now talking over the payment details with the Spanish club. Negotiations are still going on with the player, with no personal terms yet agreed, which is very much the situation that Barcelona find themselves in.
Jules Koundé, known for his aerial game and passing abilities, played 44 games for Sevilla last season. "My goal is to evolve in a bigger club that has more aspirations. Going to Sevilla seemed like the best option to try to improve myself and I don't regret the choice" had explained the Frenchman some time ago. It looks like the cards are on the table now.
