The new Chelsea owners are learning their lessons. The Blues lost one of their top targets at the hand of FC Barcelona, after they failed to close the deal on Jules Koundé until it was too late, falling to the Blaugrana's controversial tactics. Now they're looking to apply some of those tactics with one of their latest objetives: Brighton and Hove Albion's Marc Cucurella.
Marc Cucurella wants to move away from Brighton
The 24 year old Spaniard is determined to leave the Seagulls this season, having established himself as one of the best players outside the big six clubs of the Premier League. So far, he was only linked with a move to Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, but the Sky Blues could be getting some unwanted competition.
With Brighton rejecting City's last bid of £40 million, the Blues are looking to swoop in and take over the deal. As reported by various sources, the Seagulls insist on a £50 million pricetag, but Chelsea are looking to move quickly and also want to make promising 19 year old Levi Colwill part of the deal.
While Chelsea are reportedly confident they can work out a deal with Brighton, last we heard from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was that Marc Cucurella was an option, but not a priority. "[He is] a Brighton player, I cannot say anything else. If it's possible [to strengthen at left-back], yes. If it's not, we stay with what we have".
Pep Guardiola could miss on one of their targets
A former La Masía prospect, Marc Cucurella first burst into the scene with José Bordalas' pragmatic but successful Getafe in 2018-19, before moving to Brigton for 18 million euros. The Spaniard is more of a vintage full-back, known better for his energy down the flank and his strong defensive contribution.
