They sold him for 53 MILLIONS to Chelsea and now they WANT HIM BACK
The Blues did a terrible piece of business with him, and he could be on his way back to his former club
Very few things have worked out according to plan for Timo Werner since he joined Chelsea in 2020. The German striker hasn't been able to adjust to English football or perform at his best at Stamford Bridge. That's why he could be going back to where he first burst into the scene, RB Leipzig.
The 26 year old striker departed for Chelsea a few years ago, but since then he's failed to earn a place in Thomas Tuchel's team, and now the competition is growing. Despite arriving as one of the Blues' stars for the future, Werner had less and less minutes as time goes on and his role has diminished.
Now the club and the player want to find a solution, and this may come with a return to Werner's old home, with German newspaper Bild reporting RB Leipzig is working to bring the striker back. As per journalist Fabrizio Romano, there was a meeting last week between representatives of both clubs and negotiations are advancing, with a loan with an option to buy one of the main possibilities.
However, the move would require that Werner is prepared to reduce his wages by half, as Leipzig can't afford his current salary. That would be the price striker needs to pay in exchange for leaving Chelsea and going back to the team where he excelled to earn a spot in Germany's 2022 World Cup squad.
It's worth remembering that Timo Werner was also in the sights of another giant in the shape of Juventus. The Bianconeri were chasing the German as a potential plan B to their first alternative, Álvaro Morata. However, now most sources are pointing towards RB Leipzing as leading the race, and a return to the Bundesliga with the Roten Bullen for the striker, with whom he scored 93 goals in 158 games.
