They offered a RECORD BID and got nowhere: Chelsea can't get their target
The Blues are in need of some help at the back, but their latest alternative will prove very costly
Things are getting uphill for Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea in their search of a new centreback. The Blues were shown off by Leeds United in their last match and need help at the back, but most their options went nowhere and now their last alternative could cost them records amount of money.
The Blues are looking to sign 21-year-old Wesley Fofana from Leicester City, but the Foxes aren't just going to roll around for the two-time Champions League winners. Despite hearing from the player that he wants the move, the team led by Brendan Rodgers are going to ask for payment in full of their valuation of the player.
That's why, according to The Athletic, Leicester turned down the latest offer from Chelsea for Fofana. The bid is believed to have been delivered this week, but the Foxes rejected it right away. The offer from Chelsea are reportedly rather heavy on addons, so the total sum paid would likely not end up being what Leicester would have wanted.
Chelsea is rumoured to be unwilling to spend more than £70 million, add-ons included. If so, Leicester, who are reportedly asking for more than the £80 million they paid Manchester United for Harry Maguire in 2019, would have to decide whether to make a compromise or face the problem with the player.
Since joining Leicester City for £36.5 million from Ligue 1 club Saint-Etienne, Wesley Fofana has appeared in 37 Premier League games. The defender made an impression in his first season at the King Power Stadium, however a fractured leg suffered in a preseason friendly against Villarreal ended his 2021-22 season.
