Children of great footballers who succeeded in football
Being the son of a footballer is not easy because of the enormous pressure generated by your father's legacy. But despite that, many sons managed to succeed in football.
Being the son of a famous footballer is not an easy task. Many parents dream of seeing their children succeed in football, just as they did in their time. However, not everyone tends to deal correctly with this pressure. For example, Cristiano Ronaldo's son plays in the lower divisions of Manchester United and for that child, having the last name Ronaldo is a pressure. Constantly being compared to your father has its consequences and for this reason, many sons fail to succeed in football. But this does not happen in 100% of cases, since there are sons who not only succeeded in the world of football but also surpassed their father's legacy.
Diego "Cholo" and Giovanni Simeone
Diego Simeone debuted in the first division in 1987 and played professionally until 2006. Vélez, Racing Club, Atlético Madrid (absolute idol), Lazio, Inter Milan, Pisa and Sevilla have been the teams that enjoyed it. His most important titles were a LaLiga title, 1 Serie A title and a UEFA Cup. With Argentina, Cholo played 108 official matches (11 goals), in which he won 2 Copa América and the 1992 Confederations Cup. And now, he has been the coach of Atlético Madrid for 12 seasons.
His son Giovanni made his professional debut at River Plate and after passing through Banfield, he went to Europe to succeed like his father. Currently, he is preparing to play his seventh consecutive season in Italy at Hellas Verona. He previously played for Genoa, Fiorentina and Cagliari. In total, he has played 300 games, 87 goals and 31 assists. In the Argentina team, he has only played 5 games and only one goal. It is possible that in the 2022/2023 season Giovanni will be transferred to Napoli.
Peter and Kasper Schmeichel
Peter is considered to be one of the best Danish footballers of all time, as well as one of the best goalkeepers in history. During his sports career, he was chosen as the best goalkeeper in the world in 1992 and 1993, as well as being chosen as the seventh best goalkeeper of the 20th century by the IFFHS. He was the champion of Euro 1992 with Denmark and of the UEFA Champions League with Manchester United.
Instead, his son Kasper is the best goalkeeper in the history of Leicester City, a team with which he won the Premier League and the FA Cup. He is also the starting goalkeeper for the Danish National Team. He even broke the record for time without conceding a goal for the Danish national team, surpassing his father's record. Peter is very proud of his son. For a while, he kept "Father of a Premier League Champion" on his Twitter bio.
Carlos and Sergio Busquets
Carlos Busquets played as a goalkeeper between 1990 and 2002, while he was a Barcelona player between 1990 and 1998. With this team, he won 6 league titles, 3 local super cups, the 1992 Champions League, 4 king's cups and a couple of European super cups in 79 matches in total. He never managed to be the undisputed starter but was a substitute goalkeeper who in his 8 seasons, played only 79 games.
However, Sergio Busquets is an example of when children outperform their parents. He is considered one of the best midfielders in history and an absolute legend of FC Barcelona. With this team he won 3 Champions Leagues, 6 King's Cups, 8 Leagues, 3 Club World Cups, 3 European and 8 Spanish Super Cups. With the Spanish National team, he achieved maximum glory by winning the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and Euro 2012.
