It COULD happen: Ronaldo closer than EVER to a move away from United
Some doors have unlocked for the Portuguese star in the last couple of days, and there's big expectation
The situation must be unbearable for Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese star spent all summer trying to get a move away from Manchester United, in a desperate bid to play in the Champions League once again as his career slowly comes to a close. But not only did he not manage that, now he's also trapped in this Manchester United team that seems to be closer to relegation than a return to Europe's prime stage. And there's no way out... or is it?
Now, the latest reports are pointing towards one club that could be in contention for Ronaldo: Atlético Madrid. The club's president Enrique Cerezo had recently dispelled speculation that Cristiano Ronaldo could team up with Diego Simeone and the rest of his squad to win the Champions League in an interview with the Spanish radio programme El Partidazo de COPE. "It's practically impossible for him to come to Atletico de Madrid", Cerezo commented at the time.
However, now the UK newspaper The Times there has been a change. Erik ten Hag is apparently open to having the Portuguese star leave after understanding that he will not stay unless forced to do so. With that, Atlético Madrid are now reportedly looking to include either Antoine Griezmann or Alvaro Morata in a deal for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Atlético have been trying to shift Griezmann for some time now, with the French striker reportedly offered before to Paris Saint Germain. On the other hand, Manchester United have been trying to get the Colchoneros' Matheus Cunha, with the Brazilian recently rejecting a £42million move to Old Trafford. It looks like the game is finally set for the pieces to start to move around.
