"Things need to change": Cristiano Ronaldo sends a clear message to Ten Hag
The Portuguese star spoke with Manchester United's social media channels and was clear that things aren't all ok at Old Trafford
There are always some stumbling blocks for any new manager who arrives at a club. The fans need to be swayed that the club is going the right way, the board needs to be satisfied that results are good and, as always, old stars need to be convinced the new man at the helm is the right guy for the job. Such could be one of the first issues for Erik Ten Hag on his first days as Manchester United manager, particularly when dealing with a star of the calibre of Cristiano Ronaldo.
While one and the other have talked at lenght about the importance of each other for the future of Manchester United, that doesn't mean the Portuguese star will simply roll the red carpet for the former Ajax manager.
During an interview for the club's social media accounts, Cristiano Ronaldo touched on several topics, like Ten Hag's arrival, the young players at the club, and the long road ahead: "I believe that Manchester United will be where they belong", he said. "As I say before, sometimes it takes time but I still believe".
He was also, once again very supportive of the Dutch manager: "I know [Ten Hag] did a fantastic job for Ajax and that he's an experienced coach". However, the Portuguese was clear that things aren't right at Manchster United right now: "We need to give him time and things need to change - the way he wants".
Ronaldo was also very supportive of the club's youth, reminding people that the Premier League isn't an easy league to play in: "The new generation will be the future of the club. I'm in favour of giving opportunities to the young generation because they will be the future. But you have to help them as well to put it in the right spot. Because the pressure is a lot to play in the Premier League, which I believe is the most difficult league in the world by far".
