The Brazilian will be joining a club in Mexico to stay match fit for a call up to the National Team
After criticizing the circumstances surrounding his departure from Barcelona, Dani Alves is now likely to sign for his new club. Alves' short-term contract with Barça wasn't extended, despite the fact that the seasoned right-back had hoped to remain at the club for at least the first half of the upcoming season in order to keep his World Cup dream alive. This has forced Alves to become a free agent and look for a new club this summer, and that club could be Mexican outfit Pumas.
Dani Alves' return to Barcelona started like a dream and ended like a nightmare
The veteran Brazilian was Xavi Hernandez's first signing at the Camp Nou last season, but he was pretty much kicked out of the club to make room in the wage bill, despite making 17 domestic appearances in the run-up to the end of the season.
Alves expressed regret over the way he left Barcelona at the end of the season, in an interview with UK newspaper The Guardian earlier this summer."The only thing I didn't like was how my departure was handled. This club has sinned in recent years. Barcelona doesn't care about the people who made history for the club. As a Barça fan, I would like Barcelona to do things differently."
The 39 year old veteran is now set to join Pumas on a short-term contract in order to play regular football ahead of the World Cup in Qatar. According to reports, Alves joined the club with the primary goal of maintaining match fitness before the upcoming World Cup and be considered for a call-up to his career's final major tournament. However, Pumas will reportedly need to sign new sponsorship agreements to allow themselves the opportunity to add the Brazilian to their squad.
Playing with Brazil in the 2022 World Cup is Dani Alves' main objetive
According to Mexican newspaper Record, Dani Alves has agreed to terms with the club, with the player earning 100,000 dollars per game, which would amount to 1,7 millions should he play in every match. The club is hoping that the Brazilian will play around 10 matches for Pumas in the Apertura 2022 over the course of his contract.
