The SURPRISING club that is VERY CLOSE to signing Diego Costa
The Brazilian-born striker is considering retiring, but one club is tempting him with an offer
When Diego Costa returned to Brazil to play with Atlético Mineiro, he undoubtedly did it to close a great career on a high, winning the Copa Libertadores. However, the former Atlético Madrid and Chelsea striker failed to adjust to the realities of South American football, and actually negotiated with the club to end his contract before time, so he could have the option to return to Europe.
Diego Costa never quite adjusted to life in Brazil
Now that option is closer than ever to consolidating, as Costa is being heavily linked with one of his former clubs: Rayo Vallecano. Right now, the Brazilian-born striker is training alone in Madrid, while also enjoying the summer with his family. According to reports from Spanish newspaper Marca, he's weighing the retirement option, and would only consider continue to play for a Madrid based club.
In that context, Rayo Vallecano is looking to put together a dream-like front two, combining their current star up front, Radamel Falcao, with Diego Costa. According to journalist Matteo Moretto, talks are progressing well, with Costa having already received the first official offer from the club. Both parties are confident that a deal can be struck and are positive about it.
Costa already played for Rayo Vallecano, on loan from Atlético Madrid in 2012. There, he played 16 matches, scoring 10 goals and providing 6 assists. According to sources, it would be a one-year deal, with a 1 million euros wages. Reports suggest that the Spanish striker has better offers, but currently prioritizes his family life in Madrid.

Diego Costa, of course, famously played for one of the biggest sides in the Spanish capital, Atlético Madrid, between 2007 and 2014, and then again from 2018 to 2021. He wore the Colchoneros shirt 216 times, scoring 83 goals and providing 36 assists, on the way to two LaLigas, a UEFA Europa League triumph, a Copa del Rey and three European Super Cups.
