The ONE PROBLEM that's keeping Edinson Cavani from his new club
The Uruguayan has almost everything agreed with his future team, but there's one thing to solve yet
Edinson Cavani is very close to joining Valencia, but there is still one more hurdle that might derail everything: the potential move of another Uruguayan, Maxi Gómez; or more precisely, his failure to leave the club.
Numerous teams have contacted Cavani since he finished his contract with Manchester United on June 30, becoming a free agent. There have been very real offers from a number of clubs in Spain, including Atlético de Madrid, Rayo Vallecano, and Villarreal, but it looks like it will be the Mestalla side that will take the prize.
Gomez's departure is the final problem, for two reasons: the first being the non-European spot that would be released by the Uruguayan; the second one is a matter of dressing room codes. Cavani, who is aware of these concerns, doesn't want to replace a fellow countryman and take his spot. That doesn't mean Cavani won't sign if Gomez decides against accepting the offer he has to move to Fenerbahce in Turkey, but everyone is hoping for the matter to be resolved peacefully.

"I have several offers but nothing concrete, football is football, you have to go where the people love you. Hopefully my destiny will be known soon, physically I'm ok. I've come [to Madrid] to prepare myself and wait a little bit", commented Cavani recently, in an interview with Spanish TV show El Chiringuito.
Despite there being no solid figures for the workings of the deal, according to Spanish newspaper Marca, the deal is quite close to being sealed, with Edinson Cavani taking a paycut in his wages in a one year deal with an optional additional.
