SURPRISE: Edinson Cavani would be set to join this Spanish team
The Uruguayan has been free since leaving Manchester United, but he has apparently found his new club
The future of Edinson Cavani, until very recently, was a real mystery because the Uruguayan continued to train alone at the Uruguayan National Team training centre and with no offers in sight. He was linked to Boca Juniors, to clubs in Brazil and the MLS; however, now everything indicates that the Uruguayan striker will play for Villarreal, the team led by Unai Emery.
The footballer is a free agent after leaving Manchester United and would already have everything agreed with Villarreal to play for the next two seasons in La Liga. Signing is allegedly so advanced that the Matador would already be defining details such as the house to live in and other procedures prior to signing the real contract.
In the next few days, Cavani will be traveling to Spain to carry out the respective medical examination, sign the contract and be presented as a new player, to then join the preseason with Emery, who coached him at Paris Saint Germain and was also a key factor for the positive response from the Uruguayan.
Edinson Cavani has previously played in Serie A with Palermo and Napoli, in Ligue 1 with PSG and in the Premier League with Manchester United, so his arrival at Villarreal will be his first experience in LaLiga in Spain. Over the years, Cavani has been often linked to Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona, however, Villarreal ends up taking him.
Before presenting Edinson Cavani, Villarreal wants to wrap up the sale of Paco Alcácer, the 35-year-old striker who will leave and make room for the Uruguayan's wages. In this way, Cavani finds a place to reach the Qatar 2022 World Cup in the best way with the Uruguayan National Team.
