Exciting News: UEFA & CONMEBOL agree on another Finalissima
There will be another Finalissima, although the teams playing will be very different
The Finalissima match-up between the winners of the Euros and the Copa América left us with a lot to talk about, following an inmensely entertaining match that saw Argentina captain Lionel Messi lift his second trophy with the Albiceleste. The excitement seems to also have reached the upper spheres of UEFA and Conmebol, cause it has been agreed that there will be another edition of the Finalissima, although with a different set of teams.
As reported by journalist Rob Harris, there will be another duel between the best national teams from Europe and South América, only that this time it will be between the winners of the UEFA Women's EURO and the Copa América Femenina.
Although there are no dates for this new match up, both tournaments are set to be played on July 2022, so it should be no earlier than that. It will be another big step in bringing the men's and women's game more closely together and boost the popularity of the women's, with the champions of each continent facing each other in what's bound to be a great ocassion.
Regarding who could be facing up come the Women's Finalissima time, only time will tell, although it could be a very different set of teams that the one that battled for the men's edition.
Brazil, led by the ever present Marta and top goalscorer Bia Zaneratto is the defending champion of the Copa América, while hosts Colombia are also a big candidate; on the European side, The Netherlands are defending champions of the Women's EURO with the mercurial Vivianne Miedema, while hosts England are always a contender and so are record winners Germany.
