Every alarm SET OFF as De Jong is seen boarding a PLANE to ENGLAND
The Dutch midfielders had fans and press alike on the edge as he was spotted departing for the UK
Frenkie de Jong set off the alarms. The Dutchman had everyone in high alert as he was seen departing to London, amid the ever-going rumours of a potential move to Manchester United or Chelsea. Images of the former Ajax man at the Barcelona airport ready to take a flight to England came up recently and put both fans and the media on watch.
Although Joan Laporta and the board of directors at the Blaugrana club no longer on edge after the registration of Jules Koundé, the midfielder's wages would continue to be an obstacle in the event of bringing in new players, and the standoff between player and club remains.
Nowadays, it is difficult to imagine that De Jong will end up leaving Barcelona, since the Dutchman's intention has always been to continue with the Catalan giants. On the other hand, the Catalan club will make one last attempt when asking De Jong for an effort to lower his wages, something he has repeadly said he won't be doing.
In this context, pictures of De Jong arriving at Barcelona airport to board a plane to England set off every alarm, with many fearing (and others hoping) that the long-drawn transfer talks had finally arrived somewhere.
However, it was confirmed that by UK media that Frenkie de Jong is actually traveling to London on holiday, under permission from Barcelona and manager Xavi Hernández, as he looks to join the wedding of former Ajax teammate Donny Van de Beek. The situation remains at a standoff with Barcelona, who whill have to quickly decide whether they can afford his wages or not before transfer deadline day.
