GOING SOMEWHERE? De Jong with a shocking bit of news for Barça
News coming from Spain seem to point out the writing is on the wall for the Dutch midfielder
When was the last time that you heard about a player moving clubs against their will? Since the Bosman ruling in 1995, player power in world football has been at an all-time high, and lately it seems footballers are able to keep clubs at ransom should they desire. However, it seems not even that can help Frenkie De Jong.
The Dutchman has recently spoken about the growing rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United. Despite the Old Trafford club hiring Erik Ten Hag, his former manager and mentor, De Jong has remained quite unphased about having his name constantly in the news. "You're always flattered when teams show interest in you as a player but I am at the biggest club in the world at the moment and I feel fine there, so no news", replied the Dutch midfielder when asked about it.
However, with Barcelona keen to sell to open up the possibility of other moves and several players lining up the cue to wear the historied red and blue stripped shirt of Barça, it seems De Jong will soon have no choice but to consider the move.
With the latest news coming from Spain, its looking increasingly like De Jong won't be a Barcelona player next season. According to Spanish newspaper AS, De Jong has completely emptied his locker at Barcelona's Ciutat Esportiva training centre, a strange move for someone looking to remain in their spot.
Frenkie de Jong joined FC Barcelona in 2019 from Ajax, a very travelled road that has seen 21 players make the move. Since then, he has played 138 matches for Barça, although irregular form and the team's unstability has made it far from the dream move that was for the likes of Johan Cruyff, Ronald Koeman or Patrick Kluivert.
